Happy Valentine’s Day! Today is a day where people choose to celebrate their love for others. It’s a day full of a lot of chocolates, gifts, and cards. Colby and I never do much to celebrate, but we do use it as an excuse to get each other a card and spend some good one-on-one time with each other.
This day isn’t just about the love between a couple. The only reason any person is able to love others is because God first loved us. 1 John 4:19 says, “We love because he first loved us.” Before you and I were even here, God made the decision to love each of us. While we were still sinners, Christ died for all of us. Our love for God and for others should always be in response to His love for us.
Whether you spend Valentine’s day by yourself, with friends, or with a spouse, remember that it’s God’s love for you that matters. His love is unconditional and isn’t based on what you do to earn it, but is based on His grace. Despite all the trials you are in and all the challenges you might be up against, He made the choice to first love you. In the middle of a Hallmark holiday, it’s His never-ending love that should be celebrated the most.
Not just on this day, but on any day of the year ask God that His love would overflow through you onto others so all would come to know the most important love ever, the love of our Heavenly Father.
